First, let me introduce myself: I am a native of 'upstate' New York, having been born way back in
1932 in the beautiful Finger Lakes Region south of Rochester. I graduated from Red Jacket Central School in 1950
and received degrees in music theory and composition from Ithaca College and The Eastman School of Music where I
studied with Warren Benson, Bernard Rogers, Kent Kennan and Wayne Barlow. I taught various aspects of music
at the elementary, secondary, community college and university level for over thirty-five years and conducted
community and semi-professional orchestras in New York State and the San Francisco Bay Area from 1961 to 1982. More
recently, I have been a guest conductor of the Reno Philharmonic in performances of several of my compositions.
In 1999, I received
a commission from the Nevada Arts Council to compose the 'official' Nevada Day March and I have been a recipient
of an
ASCAPlus Award since 1994. I live, with my wife, Nelle (an award winning violin maker), our cat (Antonio Stradivari) and our dog (Charlee) in Douglas County, Nevada at the foot of the Sierra Nevada overlooking the beautiful Carson Valley. We are founding directors of the Carson Valley Violin School, Carson Valley Sinfonia and Carson Valley Violins, the only full-service string shop between Reno and Las Vegas. I use Notion music software for composing and Sibelius for print-outs and currently have scores in the catalogs of Ludwig/Masters, TRN and FJH Music Publishers. It is my intention, in creating this website, to make it possible for visitors to hear all of my recent compositions (check back often) and provide information as to where the scores and orchestra parts may be obtained.
